A little about us…
TUF was originally set up as ITTWI – Isle of Thanet Trees & Woods Initiative, when a number community groups came together in 2019. They were Thanet Community Forest School, Colourful Margate and The Sunken Gardens, Westgate. They were successful in applying for and winning grant funding from the Urban Tree Challenge Fund Forestry Commission. Planting started in 2020 and continues.
By planting more trees and promoting additional plantings, Thanet urban forest supports and encourages the residents who are striving for a greener better Thanet.
Low tree canopy coverage and depravation go hand in hand. It is well document across the globe that urban zones with high deprivation also suffer from the lowest tree coverage.
